We're looking into potentially replacing our existing PDF generation solution with Lulu's new APIs. As it stands, we output HTML and then Prince converts it into PDFs. Prince's docs state what support they have for various technologies - for example we utilise CSS's @font-face & page break rules and inline SVG for cover and spine text. Is there any similar documentation for what's supported through the Lulu conversion process? Which conversion engine is used?
HTML is supported as an input format for your source documents. Just set the mime type to "text/html" and you should be able to convert to PDF. You will want to experiment with some documents to see if all your required features are supported.
Unfortunately while HTML is an acceptable input format it is not one of our primary use cases. We have not done much testing of various HTML features and have no list of supported/unsupported features. I would recommend you try sending some representative examples through conversion and check the resulting PDFs for accuracy.
Is the HTML to PDF conversion through the API the same as that on the Publishing Wizard on the website? Do you know what library it uses to do the conversion?
It is the same conversion engine as the site uses. We use a combination of conversion engines to properly render the document to a PDF. We will work to create the documentation that you are requesting for HTML features that are supported, but right now the best option is to try some samples and let us know if there are features that do not work. Our expectation is that all validating HTML documents will render properly.
On the internet, there are a lot of pdf creating tools, which can convert html to pdf, but some of them are not powerful enough, for some of your pdf pages will get lost. i have used one, it can convert hml to pdf without any quality loss.
The PDF conversion is increasing, and more and more people are going towards PDF from the prediefined various versions of the DOC and other formats, this helps in increasing the number of tools available to convert file into and from PDF. I ve been through almost all of such software that we have here on the web that can convert stuff into PDF! And according to my observation, the best one is the Classic PDF Converter which can convert nearly 500 formats into PDF. Its one of its kind as it not only convert the PDF file, but it can also create a PDF from scratch, as well as its a god PDF reader and a nice PDF editor as well, and with all these features its price is few times lesser than adobe pro or other competitors.

Thanks for your reply - I'm aware HTML is supported, but surely a list of supported features exists somewhere for the converter?
